A Message to Lay Leaders from Mr. Bobby Sharp, District Lay Leader and Rev. Fred Jordan, District Superintendent
Subject: Laity Service Awards
Each year, local churches have the opportunity to honor faithful workers with the Laity Service Award. This program is run by the Western North Carolina Conference Board of Laity, and is a way to recognize the many dedicated United Methodists who serve within and beyond churches across the conference. From taking active leadership roles to working quietly in the background, these church members are crucial to the Church’s living as the Body of Christ and its fulfilling its mission. Recipients of the Laity Service Award will be recognized at a District Laity Banquet scheduled for May 14 (more information will be forthcoming) and at the annual Gathering of the Laity, August 13-15 at Lake Junaluska.
Again, you are encouraged to select one or more local faithful servants from each congregation to receive this recognition. When one or more of the laity in a congregation are recognized as examples of Christian servanthood, all laity everywhere are recognized.
